TEACHER PROFILE

Marie Ecoffey

BULLE/SWITZERLAND

My name is Marie, and I live in Switzerland. I literally fell in love with the handpan during a trip to Barcelona. In Park Güell, a woman was playing it and singing. From that moment on, I told myself that I would love to do the same.

Not being a musician, I put this dream aside—until it caught up with me during the lockdown. I became determined to get a handpan and learn to play it. A few years have passed, and I still play with the same passion, using this instrument as a way to connect with myself. To me, the handpan feels like an “extraterrestrial” gift, here to teach us, little humans, how to center ourselves and return to the space of the heart.

  • Now, I am delighted to introduce others to the magic of the handpan—especially children for now, but also, gradually, adults who want to reconnect with the magic of their inner child. Teaching the handpan allows me to merge my past as a language teacher with my curiosity and enthusiasm as a therapist, whose mission has always been to spark little flames of inspiration around me.

I have no classical music training, and I see this as a strength—the ability to guide others in this magical musical discovery, where music becomes intuitive and spontaneous, breaking free from the rigid framework of traditional learning. The handpan opens the doors to the world of music for so many people, and that is its true magic! And this is exactly what I intend to share with you, my future students!
