Hangala (Isabelle Kohtz)
BOCHUM/GERMANY
Hi, my name is Isabelle Kohtz, and I am known artistically as Hangala.
About four and a half years ago, I was captivated by the magical sound of the handpan. When my very first handpan arrived, I knew instantly—this was more than just an instrument. It was a calling, a profound part of my path.
-
Just one month after acquiring my first handpan, I began offering individual and group lessons. What started as a personal discovery quickly evolved into a deeply fulfilling vocation. Over the years, my work has grown to include live music for yoga sessions, cacao ceremonies, and sound journeys—all centered around the handpan.
The more I connected with the handpan, the more things I started to offer. I now teach indivudal handpan lessons, organize immersive retreats ranging from one-day to multi-day handpan workshops, and perform in concerts designed to open the heart. In May 2024, my partner Warren Shanti and I founded Wild·Ekoh, a handpan duo born out of love and shared vision. Together, we co-create and lead handpan workshops, retreats, and live performances that invite others into the magic of this unique instrument. We also release our music— both my solo compositions as Hangala and our duo tracks as Wild·Ekoh—on all major digital platforms.
As a highly sensitive person and a coach for HSPs (Highly Sensitive Persons), the handpan has also become an essential companion in my coaching work. Its gentle vibrations help create safe, emotionally resonant spaces for transformation and self-discovery.
That initial feeling—that the handpan would become an essential part of my life—has not only come true, it has developed in ways I could have never imagined.
What nourishes me most is teaching. My deepest intention is to offer others what the handpan offers me: space to feel, to express, and to reconnect with themselves through sound.
I joined the MMM teacher training to deepen my teaching approach. Malte's vision resonates with mine, an intuitive, respectful way of guiding others, supported by just enough structure to open the door to truly free and transformative play.
